The ten Commandments Of Part-Time

  1.  Accepted different work
If you work part time to meet different companies, it might be a good idea to be flexible as a person to services that you have . Never refuse a new job unless you are really convinced that what were asking can harm you.

     2. Always present the reasons which led him to look for a part-time

If you work only for sport and only need that money for their extra until you can afford to work only two or three days a week. But if you work because you have
accounts to pay, it may be better to rearrange their lives to take enough time to work to win the money you need.

     3. Go beyond their duty

In the workplace try to do more than it required. Be competent and professional is sufficient to repair in you, but if moreover that you show enthusiasm and love for what does and does not mind to do more than ask, you will quickly gain the respect and admiration of all the people who work with you.

     4. Be versatile

Try to meet the largest number of people and departments as possible. It is the best way for you to understand everything that is happening in the company and to be always alert to new opportunities.

     5.  Look for extra work

When you do not have anything to look whether there is anything you can get help. Especially if he brings extra knowledge or the opportunity to participate in a major project.

     6. Promote their capabilities

Never forget that self-promotion is your best marketing.

      7. When you do not know, ask

It is better to ask the same things very times, if not understand, what do you mess up on something that your boss thought you had do well.

      8.  Always have a resume at hand

You never know when a new opportunity may arise, so prevention is better than cure! You always have your updated resume on hand for any eventuality.

       9. Response at the tip of the tongue

The more certain it is a day someone asks "But ultimately, what kind of work do you want?". Be fast and aim to respond to the person quickly understands what you want and see where can you be useful to the company.

      10. Positive thinking

It is not always easy to have a positive spirit for a job part time. But do not despair. Consider this work as a step to a jump higher for the job that you always dreamed.

The Curriculum Vitea

The Curriculum Vitae (CV), also known by only curriculum is a document where you put personal data, a description of academic training and experience most relevant as well as the extra-professional activities of the candidates (Hobie, sports, personal tastes , etc.).. It is normally used as a means of presentation and application for employment.

The CV is usually the first element that an employer has on a candidate. From the CV that the employer get a first image of the candidate, allowing attract the interest of wanting to meet you, giving you the opportunity to have an interview.

A well developed curriculum allows the candidate to give a good impression on it, should be well written, have a thorough presentation and describe briefly but objectively the qualifications and professional experience of the candidate.

Youtube's presence in the new era of entertainment

Youtube is one of the most popular sites on the Web, and even though it started out as a simple video uploading web address, it is now something which gives income to many and provides future jobs to even more.

Many are the vloggers (new word born out of the words “video” and “blogger”) who started out uploading videos for fun and now earned a legion of fans, and sometimes some even get paid to upload videos.

This is the case of youtube user Phillip DeFranco (going by the username sxephil); he now has his own show online which he uses to earn enough money to pay for his dad’s kidney disease (which he inherited).

He first started out doing this for fun, and once he was offered being paid to do his show, he started to gather money so he could afford medical school, which he had recently dropped out of.

Mixing light comedy, pop culture criticising and political and social reprisal, he makes fun of the world at the same time and of the news, which, due to his shows un-established air date, he often publicises before actual news shows.

Though language is present (mostly for comedic purposes), his new age way of thinking shares the same views as today’s educated youth.

Do not be afraid and check, and maybe even subscribe, to the Philip DeFranco show at:

Feelancing

What really is working freelance?

A freelancer is, basically, someone who works for himself, having no boss, and more often than not, having no employees.

Freelancing is not restricted to one job, but to hundreds of jobs.
Thanks to new improvements in communication and data filing technology, virtually every non industrial job is available freelance.

Even the most common problems a freelance used to have are now solved, such as health insurance and office managing.

And now, in the midst of an economical crisis most dramatic to the big companies, freelancing alone is looking more and more appealing to many.

The hardest thing in freelancing is getting started, because the financial investment needed to get your business going is certainly the hardest one you can make.
But, if you work hard enough and put your mind to the test, not putting aside a little help from Lady Luck, you are sure to get your money back with interests!

The Theatre

The seventh art, as it is so often called, is both a wonder and a curse. While providing us with many hours of entertainment which shows us things as unrealistic and wonderful as the fantasy movies of magic and dragons, driving us into the future to watch intergalactic face offs of spaceships and shiny lasers, or depressing us with slices of life capable of bringing tears to the toughest of men.

While all of these are truly things that once we see we will never be able to live without (though sometimes making us endure painfully bad movies which kindle a desire to murder, or at least torture, he who ever thought this was worth being made a movie), they take us away from a thousand year old art which truly deserves more attention from the people.

I am off course talking about the theatre.

Ever since ancient Greece have actors stepped into a stage solely to entertain and bring a smile, or a frown, to the spectators’ faces.

Now we have to wonder; with all of these spectacular explosions and remarkable CGI, has the theatre, after surviving for thousands of years, become a dying art?

Professional Gambling

The new world of income earning strays farther and farther from the past’s get rich or die trying methods. While gambling still existed in the past, there was absolutely no way for someone to get rich as easily 100 hundred years ago as it is for someone today, just needing to go to Vegas, even if holding no more than five dollars in his pocket.

What was for just a hobby, or even and addiction in the past can actually be a legalized profession today.

That’s right, you really can legally win your income by just playing a bunch of cards, dice, or some other fortune based game.

And it is actually a job that is quickly spreading all over the world.
While Las Vegas still continues to be the Mecca for all gamblers, their games take place all over the world, and even online.

As out of this world as it may seem, online gambling is also legally accepted as a way to earn income and pay your taxes in most of the developed countries. In fact, most, if not all of the newer and most successful gamblers had their first steps in this career online.
As a result, legalized online gambling is as important, or maybe more important, than real life legalized gambling.

Although one can still gamble without being a professional (solely keeping the rank of amateur), many are those who start it as a hobby or as a last resort to earn some money (which is definitely not advised, as it more often than not results in more debts and addiction) and end up going professional.

THERE ARE STILL WOMEN’S JOBS AND MEN’S JOBS

The labour sexual division remains even technological inovation has been introduced, questionning social science explanations. The discrimination between male and female labor is nowadays based on required knowledge for qualification. The social construction lies on discussion that to be female is a negative point in work qualification. There are studies where there is a hard oposition to women employees as tram driver and well as in the technical qualified work. It would be a contribution to reflection on both male and female work place. The atitude against “female invasion” is an attempt to defend work space either individual or colective one.

Job segregation— the tendency for men and women to work in different occupations—is often cited as the reason that women's wages lag men's. But this begs the question: What is it about women's job that causes them to pay less? One can argue that emotional labour offers the missing link in the explanation. Tasks that require the emotive work thought natural for women, such as caring, negotiating, empathizing,smoothing troubled relationships, and working behind the scenes to enable cooperation, are required components of many women's jobs. Excluded from job descriptions and performance evaluations, the work is invisible and uncompensated.

WHY ARE WOMEN DISCRIMINATED AT WORK? SOME EMPLOYERS “CLAIM” THE FOLLOWING REASONS

Much of the discrimination that women experience takes place in the workplace. Most employers consider that you are a woman in hiring, firing, or promoting you or in deciding how much you get paid.
Pregnancy discrimination: Since only women become pregnant, you cannot be forced to leave your job because you are pregnant if you can still do the work. You are also entitled, if you can still do the work, to the same sick pay or disability that any other employee would be paid for any other medical absence.

Disability: A disability (physical or mental) that does not affect your job performance may not be used against you.

Family leave: women are often called to take care of their ill children.

AIDS: AIDS and some other contagious diseases are considered disabilities.

Tree types of Jobs

Part-times in a part-time Job you are less paid than in a full-time one. You work less hours and have no social or health guarantees.
Full- times- A permanent full-time job usually has benefits, while temporary full-time jobs usually do not have benefits. Full-time jobs are often considered careers. They usually pay more than part-time jobs, and always carry more hours per week.
Flexi-time- is a variable work schedule, in contrast to traditional work arrangements requiring employees to work a standard 9am to 5pm day. Under flextime, there is typically a core period of the day when employees are expected to be at work,while the rest of the working day is "flexitime", in which employees can choose when they work, subject to achieving total daily, weekly or monthly hours in the region of what the employer expects, and subject to the necessary work being done.

UNEMPLOYMENT

It occurs when a person is available to work and seeking work but currently without work. The prevalence of unemployment is usually measured using the unemployment rate, which is defined as the percentage of those in the labour force who are unemployed. The unemployment rate is also used in economic studies and economic indexes.

Causes:

  1. Lack of skills;

  2. Economic conditions of the country or of the company;

  3. Mismatch between available workers and positions to be filled;

  4. Voluntary unemployment.

Entry into the World of Work

As we students of 11th grade are about to enter the competitive world of work, I put in here some information about the curriculum, which will be necessary for our future jobs =).

What is a curriculum?

It is a summary of our personal data, training, work experience and even at times of non-professionals.

What should contain?

--> Identification (name date of birth, address, phone and e-mail);

--> Education (education level, date of completion, which received average if positive);

--> Vocational Training (diplomas or certificates earned, either in training centers, or in business; field of spoken language and / or writing, as well as knowledge of computers; reference to the license, if you have);

--> Professional Experience (description accurately and summarized the experiences of work, work performed, the tasks performed, their level of responsibility, of companies that worked and the time during which develop these activities);

--> Extra-professional activities (leisure activities, such as cultural activities, trade unions, sports, associations, etc.)..

How to organize a curriculum?

There are two types of curriculums:
  1. Chronological Resume:

--> Describe the work experience in chronological order;

--> The experience is sort of starting from the oldest to the most recent has the advantage of making clearer to read, allowing a sequential presentation of the career;

--> The experience is sort of working the most recent to the oldest has the advantage of putting emphasis on more recent experiences, if they consider as more relevant to the job that the candidate.

2. Functional curriculum

--> Groups is the work experience block of activities or similar functions;

--> It is the advantage of being able to highlight the activities most important to the job in question and give less emphasis on the periods were unemployed;

--> Is especially directed to candidates who have very diverse activities.

How to write a curriculum?

When writing a resume follows these rules:

--> Presentation: Should be, preferably, written to a computer, without spelling or grammatical errors in a white sheet, type A4.

--> Size: Shall not exceed 2 to 3 pages

--> Style:

-->Prefer verbs of action, speaking in 1st person and describes clearly and concisely what you can do. Eg "I depart ..."," I produce ... "," I do ... "

-->Use simple words and short phrases. Eg "I have 3 years experience in this area."

-->Avoid paragraphs with more than 5 lines. Forward an idea per paragraph.

--> Numbers: If you use numbers do not write in words. Eg "82" instead of "eighty-two."

--> Dates: It's always the same. Exs. 23-09-2002, 2002-09-23, 23 September 2002.

--> Acronyms: If you use acronyms, then writes its significance. Ex IEFP (Institute of Employment and Vocational Training).

Good Luck with your curriculum ;)

Full Time Work

Definition:
A permanent full-time job usually has benefits (such as health insurance). Full-time jobs are often considered careers. They usually pay more than part-time jobs, and always carry more hours per week. The most common full-time work week in the U.S. is between 32-40 hours. In France it is a government-mandated 35 hours per week. In Germany it is between 35-40 hours per week, and in Denmark it is 37 hours per week. In Australia it is around 35-37 hours per week, and in the U.K., whilst there is no formal definition, it is generally considered to be 35 hours a week or more. A person working more than full-time is working overtime, and that person is receiving extraordinary hours.

People who work in full time usually don't have enough free time to spend with their family. It's the inconvinience of work in full time: people won more money but somentimes don't have the necessary time to spend with the one they care and love.

Volunteer Work

Definition:
The definition of volunteering, according to Portuguese legislation (Act No. 71/98) considers as such "actions of social interest and community carried out by disinterested people, on projects, programs and other forms of assistance to the service of individuals, families and community development non-profit entities public or private ".

Volunteering is an expression of the exercise of citizenship and results in supportive relationship with the next, so free, but framed in an entity promoter, to solve problems that affect society in general or groups social programs. While concrete practice, may take two forms: voluntary direction, which includes the holders of the organs of the non-profit social institutions, and implementation of voluntary, including those who exercise direct support to beneficiaries of these institutions.

Beyond the voluntary human, there is also the voluntary animal. This kind of voluntary targets the welfare of abandoned animals, ensuring they have food and protection.

Help them to help :D

Part-Time Jobs

Definition:
A part-time jobs generally paid less than a full-time employment, and has fewer working hours per week. Often the workers have no guaranteed benefit (such as health plan) with part-time jobs.

Part-Time jobs are usually wanted by people who are studying, have small children or have one full time job and want to win more money.
Today, we find several categories of work in part-time as:
-->Internet / Telecom accounting
-->finance marketing
-->advertising journalism
-->communication sales transportation
-->logistics engineering
-->architecture construction administration
-->secretarial hospitality
--> tourism catering / events / catering
-->etc..
As we can see, nowadays who wants to have a part-time job has very to chose...

1st of May - Labor Day

For many people it’s just another holiday that the world celebrates, but the truth is that this day has a long history behind it. It started on the 1st of May 1886, when thousands of workers in Chicago (USA) organized a demonstration with the purpose of claiming the reduction of working hours to 8 hours daily.

The event led to a general strike and two days later (on 3rd of May 1886), a small insurrection which gave complications, because workers and police were involved in battle fields, ending with the death of some demonstrators.

The following day, May 4th, it was organized a new event to protest what happened the previous days, and finished with the launch of a bomb against the police which killed 7 police agents. Consequently, it was opened fire against the crowd, and twelve people died and dozens were injured. These events have become known as the Revolt of Haymarket.

Three years later, on 20th of June 1889, during the Second Socialist International it was decided to make an annual event in order to fight for the eight hours of work per day, and it was chosen the 1st of May as a tribute to union wars of Chicago.

At 1st of May 1891 a demonstration in northern France also went wrong because the crowd was dispersed by the police, resulting in the death of ten demonstrators. This new drama serves to reinforce the day as a day of fighting. Some months later, the Socialist International of Brussels proclaims the 1st of May as the international day to claim working conditions.

The first country to establish the day as holiday was France, on 23 of April 1919, after ratifying the eight-hour working day. In Portugal, it was only in 1974, following the euphoria of April, the people started up celebrating the first of May.
